SmARTkids is a fine art site created for kids ages 7-12 by the Smart Museum of Art at the University of Chicago. This is a great site for kids and parents to investigate together, or for just turning kids loose to explore and play. Through structured and open-ended activities, kids can look at, think about, and respond creatively to art. Activities on this site include visiting a virtual artist’s studio, exploring photography, oil painting, sculpture and pottery, an “art detective” game, and a glossary of important art terms. An “Artwork of the Month” feature allows students a more in-depth study of a particular artwork as well as an archive of previously featured works. The "sketchbook" feature allows kids to respond in writing to thought-provoking questions and even print out their responses. Kids will enjoy navigating their way through the sea of activities on this comprehensive fine art site!
